Challenge
How do I represent Josephine’s analog style of fashion, featuring rich textures and craft, on the web?
Exploring the world of fashion
This project emerged from a collaboration with Josephine Malcorps, a Norwegian Dutch fashion designer seeking to build her first portfolio website. Her work, rich in textures and layers, called for a unique representation.
We spent significant time discussing the right approach for her display, considering key factors such as simplicity, video integration, and mobile-first design. This project was an excellent match with my experience in fashion and interest in helping artists and designers rise to prominence through digital representation.
Who is Josephine?
Josephine is a multi-disciplinary fashion designer, known for blending modernism and romanticism in her creations. With a keen interest in sustainability and craftsmanship, her designs often feature clashes of contrasting materials and contexts. Raised in Norway and The Netherlands, her dual heritage fuels her artistic curiosity and cultural exploration.

Approach
Through a deep dive into the organisational landscape and close collaboration we co-designed the Compass
Not easy to represent a huge body of analog work
Josephine’s largely analog portfolio, with tons of scraps and fabrics, presented a compelling design challenge: balancing the minimalism of modern web aesthetics with the layered complexity of Josephine's body of work.
Based on first converations, I proposed a dual navigation system on the website (#1 from the central homepage - #2 by a dedicated portfolio navigation menu). Next to this, I spotlighted Josephine's signature black and white palette, ensuring the website's aesthetic did justice to the depth and texture of her work.
Large-scale videos became a cornerstone of the design, offering visitors a rich, immersive experience. The focus on a mobile-first design ensured accessibility and minimal interaction were crucial, without compromising the detail and layered appeal of Josephine’s work. By effectively balancing aesthetic appeal with functionality, we crafted a digital platform that truly reflected the spirit of Josephine's analog fashion world.
Outcome & Impact
Positive reception and enabling Josephine to land a new role at Botter World, with the website being mentioned as a key driver.
The designed website successfully mirrors Josephine's layered and textured work while following modern web principles. Its navigational complexity keeps visitors engaged, and the heavy aesthetics meet her stylistic preferences. User feedback indicates positive reception, with numerous praises for the integration of large videos and mobile-friendly design.
Reflection
Working with Josephine was a highlight, offering a unique opportunity to combine design with functionality in a meaningful way.
The project with Josephine turned into an ongoing partnership, which has been both a privilege and a learning experience. Our continuous work on the website has not only helped it evolve but also played a crucial role in advancing her career. This success showcases the tangible impact of our digital work.
A key challenge was making the website easy for Josephine, a non-digital native, to maintain. This pushed me to focus on simplicity in both design and functionality, ensuring that the website is manageable without compromising on its quality or appeal.
